Just as 7 Days changed the ground rules for current affairs programming, Wojeck established a new standard for Canadian television drama in English. Created by Phillip Hersch, and justly praised for the quality of its writing, Wojeck’s gritty style and ripped-from-the-headlines stories achieved a form of socially-aware drama that has left its imprint on Canadian television ever since. Much of the power of the program came from John Vernon’s taut portrayal of Steve Wojeck, a man frustrated or driven to outrage by people, officials and institutions that failed to provide answers or acknowledge responsibility. Patricia Collins as his wife Marty and Ted Follows as the Crown Prosecutor, Bateman, provided counterpoint and balance in a fine ensemble cast.
