Welcome to the DIRECTORY of Canadian audiovisual sources. This directory will help researchers, programmers and creators to locate Canadian audiovisual content. It provides a general orientation to the organizations’ holdings, and to its collecting and access approach. The primary focus is o­n heritage, archival materials; however, many of the listings refer to growing collections where more recently-created works can also be found.

Both public institutions and private sector companies have been included. Some do not charge for research inquiries, others apply cost recovery service fees, and some operate o­n a full fee-for-service commercial basis.

The criteria for inclusion in the directory are:

moving image, sound, or multi-media holdings; or subject-related material such as textual records, stills, posters, books

available to external users for research, screening/programming or reuse

web site with location and access information.

This directory does not include detailed collections descriptions, nor access restrictions, rights holder and clearance information. Users will need to contact the organization directly to obtain further information and to proceed with their search.
