AV Vault Database

In putting together this AV Vault survey, Villeneuve Media, on behalf of the AV Trust, aimed to gather all essential data related to the existence, location, availability of and need for climate controlled vaults suitable for and dedicated, in whole or in part, to the storage and preservation of Canadian films, audio-video magnetic tape, digital media and other previous-utilized audiovisual production and storage media.

The audiovisual vault facilities inventoried in this survey are those (both public and private – where known) where the following Audio-Visual media are being conserved for medium or long-term storage or archiving:
  • Motion picture films (all gauges and types)
  • Magnetic tapes and cassettes (audio and video)
  • Laserdiscs or any other disk-based audiovisual (multimedia) supports
  • Any other audio, video or multimedia supports (Analog or digital recording media).
This may include (where the quantity of material warrants it) vaults that are not necessarily primarily designed for audiovisual material storage, but where digitally stored media (streaming server data, etc.) is held for long-term safekeeping.

Not included in this survey are facilities designed to house and conserve media for short-term purposes (ie: editorial facilities, television stations, radio stations, etc.).
